Boots (part of the £15bn turnover Alliance Boots Group) is the largest health and beauty retailer in the UK. It has been trading online for many years and recently undertook a formal search, with Javelin Group's help, for a new scalable and functionally-rich ecommerce platform. Completely independent of all technology vendors, Javelin Group has advised on more than 20 major ecommerce platform selections and has an excellent understanding of all of the leading technologies. Tony Stockil (Javelin Group CEO) will describe the current landscape of ecommerce technologies and applications while Russell Harte (Business Systems Manager for Boots.com) will describe the journey Boots has taken to select and implement its current ecommerce technologies. |

Biography |

Russell Harte is currently the Program manager for the Boots.com relaunch. He joined Boots.com in 2002 after several years in a variety of service delivery for Boots’ retail stores, supply chain, pharmacy and opticians. Since then he has climbed the steep learning curve of internet retailing for nearly six years. Central to his role is ensuring that Boots.com makes the right technology investment decisions and maximizes the ROI on these investments. In 2007 he managed (with close support from Javelin Group) the technology selection process for a complete overhaul and re-platforming of Boots.com. The joint Boots.com/Javelin Group team defined a long list of business, technical and functional requirements, scored qualified vendors against this list, and managed a rigorous tendering process with the two shortlisted ecommerce platform vendor finalists. Russell then led the implementation program and eighteen months later Boots.com has successfully re-launched an exciting new ecommerce proposition on a new technology platform. |
